PRESS: Mass production of large gas turbines may start in late 2027

MOSCOW, Jul 17 (PRIME) -- Serial production of gas turbines of a big capacity in Russia may start by the fourth quarter of 2027, Kommersant business daily reported Tuesday citing a draft road map of the Industry and Trade Ministry.

The project has already been submitted to the government, but disagreements between government bodies have not been settled yet, the daily said.

The project encompasses gradual production of large turbines: of 110 megawatts (MW) in the fourth quarter of 2019, 170 MW in late 2021 and 65 MW in late 2022.

The road map implies budget subsidies to compensate for part of production costs.

A spokesperson for Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak confirmed that a meeting on the road map was held and an instruction was given to further develop it.

Sources familiar with the situation said the Industry and Trade Ministry insisted on creation of a sales market for modernization of thermal plants only for Russian plants. The program worth up to 1.4 trillion rubles until 2030 is currently being discussed at the government.

Russia does not currently have production of gas turbines of a big capacity, except a joint venture of Germany’s Siemens and Power Machines. The ministry believes that Russian analogues will be cheaper, specific capital expenditures will amount to 10 million rubles per MW.

The ministry also proposed to exempt pilot projects with Russian equipment from fines in case of violations of commissioning time or breakdown.
